Have you ever sat down and just thought about your “WHY”?
When I talk about your Why, I’m referring to what inspires you, what drives you, and what keeps you going forward. This may sound silly, and maybe you’re sitting here reading this and thinking “well I work because I have to” or something along those lines. But let’s try to go deeper than that. Let’s really REFLECT on our lives, and think about that underlying thing that inspires us in all that we do. Living with intention is KEY, and knowing our Why helps us to achieve this because it helps us to guide everything we do towards that purpose.
In today’s post, I’m sharing MY why. I’m about 2 months shy of turning 30 and I feel like my “Why” has been evolving soo much in the past 2 years as I’ve gotten older and hit new milestones in my life. If I’m being honest, my Why has become more selfish recently. When I was younger, I was so concerned with pleasing others and making those around me happy that my Why was more about them than myself. Not anymore! I’ve grown so much mentally and emotionally, and have learned just how important it is to nourish my own self, which has led me to evolve my Why to focus on ME.
OK, so let’s get down to it!
A full-time job as a scientist. A lifestyle and wellness blogger. An independent distributor of essential oils and wellness products. A child life volunteer. A wife. A self-proclaimed chef. And a self-care enthusiast. That’s basically me in a nutshell. I have a TON of interests and I love to stay busy so I try to pursue ALL of them! Everyone always asks me the same thing “WHY do you get involved in so many things, and HOW do you manage to do it all?”.
Well it’s pretty simple actually. I want to truly live my BEST LIFE. I want to balance having a family, a career, and time for myself. I never want to lose site of my own interests and hobbies. I also want to inspire others, and know that I made a difference in someone’s life, even if it’s just one person. And I want to have the freedom (both time and financial freedom) to be able to pursue all of my interests and passions in order to live the life I dream of. In other words, I want to have it ALL – my personal version of having it all of course. And that’s what inspires me to do everything that I do. That’s what drives me to make the time, whether it’s 5 minutes here or 10 minutes there, to pursue all of it.
For example, I volunteer at the local children’s hospital because it’s something that I’m passionate about, and I love the feeling I get when I make a child laugh while they’re stuck at the hospital undergoing chemo. It makes my heart happy, and that feeds my soul. I’m a distributor for essential oils and wellness products because I’m super passionate about the products and living healthier, but also because I’m getting paid for sharing naturally about something that I already love. Umm heck yes! The paycheck I get every month is a bonus to loving on their products and gives me financial freedom so that I can pursue even more of my interests. I blog about lifestyle and wellness because it’s a creative outlet for me to explore so many of my other interests such as writing, self-care, and wellness that are outside of my job as a scientist. But also because I hope that one day, one of my posts will touch the heart of one of my readers and make a difference in their life.
All of those are examples of why I love some of the things that I pursue, but at the base of each is my desire to live my very best life. All of these things in one way or another contributes to that dream. My passion and commitment to each of these is inspired by a yearning to fulfill all of my mental, emotional, and physical needs so that I can fill my cup each day.
Now that you know my “Why”, I want to know YOURS. Why do you do the things you do? What drives you and keeps you going? Is it providing the best life for your family, is it to gain the financial freedom to travel the world, is it to make a difference in society? What inspires you? Let me know in the comments!
