It’s OFFICIALLY summer andddd the timing is perfect because the world is finally starting to reopen. YAY! I go back to work from mat leave in about a month and a half, so I am hoping to soak up every single moment of summer before that. There is so much that I’ve wanted to do with Mia during these warmer months that we couldn’t do previously due to the COVID restrictions, so I’m hoping to squeeze in a lot of new memories this summer. In honour of the official start of summer today, I thought I would hop on here and share a few of my favourite summer essentials, so let’s jump right in.
A comfy pair of shorts
I love a good pair of shorts, but if I’m being honest right now my postpartum body is NOT anywhere close to being my pre-pregnancy body so I was worried that I was going to spend most of this summer in frumpy clothes trying to cover it all up. Enter these amazing shorts that I bought to try out and ended up LOVING! They’re high waisted so they tuck everything in (I’m talking that mommy pouch that just loves to hang around) plus the length of them are a bit longer than your normal short short but not as long as a Bermuda short (I’m not a fan), so I feel super comfortable and covered in them. Also, the colour and rips are totally my vibe and they’re so CUTE.
I’m not too much of a big floppy hat person, but I need a pair of sunglasses with me all summer long. Squinting your eyes all day because of the sun is NOT CUTE. I’m obsessed with the sunglasses from Quay Australia – they have so much variety of styles and they are so gorg.
YL mineral sunscreen
While we’re on the topic of sun, protecting your skin is super important so I always make sure to apply sunscreen when we’re going out. I use the one from Young Living and I love that it is all natural and plant based which means I can also use it on Mia and not have to worry about buying separate products for her.
Citronella essential oil
OK seriously, I don’t know why but mosquitoes loveeeee me. Ugh. Since last summer we’ve been using citronella essential oil to help keep the bugs away – we diffuse it on our balcony, we mix it into a spray to apply topically, and most recently we’ve used it on a mini felt diffuser that we clipped onto Mia’s stroller to help keep them away from her – and it works so well! A total must for the summer.
A cute tote
I am so feeling the straw totes this year! They are so cute and lightweight, and it totally goes with my farmgirl vibe that I have going on this summer. You can catch me with mine each week at the farmer’s market with lots of local flowers and veggies sticking out.
Comfy and cute sandals
This is a MUST because if you go out in the summer to a place that requires a lot of walking but your outfit doesn’t go with sneakers, you do NOT want to be stuck in a pair of sandals that hurt your feet or are uncomfortable to walk in. I am currently on the hunt for a really cute but also comfy pair for this summer, so let me know if you have any recommendations.
A good book
This one may seem a little rando but there is something spectacular to be said about just lounging out in the summer outdoors with a cold drink and a good book. I love reading and the summer months are no different.
A cute bikini
Is any summer really complete if you don’t strut your stuff in a super cute bikini? I just ordered a new 1-piece bathing suit from Aerie that I feel goes with my “mom bod” a little better, and I can’t wait to try it on and see how it fits. Pre-pregnancy I used to also LOVE my bikinis from Romwe (their shipping takes long so I recommend paying extra for expedited shipping, but the quality was really good on the ones I had ordered).
I am so PUMPED for summer and spending lots of time outdoors enjoying the sunshine and making new memories with Mia, and I will definitely be rocking all of my summer essentials. Hoping everyone has an amazing and safe (remember social distancing) summer!
