A lot of us find ourselves wearing so many different hats in our daily life that sh*t can get HECTIC! Between work, being a parent, household chores, making time for family and friends, working on your side hustle, things can get crazy busy making it super hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We tend to neglect our physical and mental health – grabbing fast food meals on the go, skipping out on the gym, forgoing a proper night’s rest, and not making time for ourselves.
I feel like I’m constantly on the go, but having a healthy lifestyle is a huge priority for me so I’ve tried to come up with key ways to maintain that healthy lifestyle while on a busy schedule. In today’s post, I’m sharing those tips with you so you can stay on top of your healthy lifestyle despite your super hectic schedule.
MEAL PREP – Proper nutrition is a HUGE aspect of a healthy lifestyle, but is usually the top thing that gets neglected. When I was in grad school, I ate fast food CONSTANTLY and I saw the changes in my body that resulted from it. Now, I make a conscious effort to meal prep for the work week so that I can CONTROL what’s going into my body. Plan out your meals, make sure that they are BALANCED (super important), and also include healthy snacks for those moments when you get a sugar craving.
10 MINS OF EXERCISE IS BETTER THAN NO EXERCISE – So many of us are under the impression that we need to do a full 30-60 minute workout in order for it to count. This often means that we skip out on the workouts because we just don’t have that amount of time to dedicate. Wrong! Some is better than none – remember that! Squeeze in 10 minutes here, there, or whenever you can. Maybe that means doing a few sets of squats while you have a short break at work, or waking up a few minutes earlier so you can take a quick jog around the block.
DRINK A TON OF WATER – I’m so guilty of not doing this, but drinking enough water each day is so important for our health and overall wellbeing. Why, you ask? Well for starters it helps maintain the balance of our bodily fluids which affects so many of our body’s functions. It also helps to control calories, energize muscles, and keep our skin looking good. The best part is that we can do this on even the busiest of schedules! Keep a refillable water bottle with you all day – in your meetings, during transit, while you’re doing your chores, etc. – and keep on drinking!
GET ENOUGH SLEEP – This is a no-brainer. Sleep is crucial for our bodies to rejuvenate and regenerate itself. If you’re on a super busy schedule and forcing yourself to work through the night and cut back on sleep, you’re doing yourself a HUGE disservice. Make sure to get a full 7-8 hours of sleep each night so your body can rest and re-charge each day.
MAKE TIME FOR SELF-CARE – Ok, so far we’ve mostly talked about the obvious ways to maintain physical health. But what about mental health? It’s a MASSIVE part of living a healthy lifestyle and something that we often overlook. When we’re always on the go, the last thing we tend to make time for is self-care, but it can make such a huge difference in our lifestyle and it doesn’t have to take much effort. It can be as quick as having a cup of tea while reading a new book, unplugging for 10 minutes, or spending 5 minutes journaling. It doesn’t take much effort, but can make a huge difference.
As you can see, the things I’ve talked about don’t take much time at all. Even though I’m always on the go and super busy, when I make time to do these things throughout my day I feel a HUGE difference. My body not only feels better physically, but also mentally, and knowing that I’m still making time to live a healthy lifestyle makes me SO happy! It may seem daunting at first because it feels like you need to set aside a ton of time throughout the day in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, but that’s just a myth. You can totally squeeze in 5 minutes here or 10 minutes there to ensure that you stay on top of your health.
