Prepping for a new baby and figuring out exactly what they need for those first few months is no easy task. I watched a TON of videos and read a ton of blog posts when planning my baby shower registry so that I could figure out all that I would need. In today’s post I’m sharing all of my baby must-haves for the first 3 months of life. Some of these are items that I got based on the recommendation of others while some are ones that I took a chance on and ended up loving. These are all products that worked wonders for baby Mia and that we both loved during those first few months! Keep in mind that all babies are different, so what worked for my baby may not necessarily work for yours.
Fridababy NoseFrida Snotsucker – In the first few months I would always notice that Mia sounded super stuffy but her nostrils were so tiny. Using the snotsucker made it so easy to get rid of everything that was back there and although she didn’t love it, it worked like a charm.
Cocyntal Baby Colic Relief Medicine – I am all about homeopathic medicine and this stuff works so well! Whenever Mia becomes super fussy from gas pain I give her one vial and within minutes she feels relief.
Braun AgePrecision Digital Thermometer – I feel like this is one of those things that you need right from the beginning, especially if you’re a super paranoid mom like myself. Whenever Mia feels too hot I always just pull it out and check just to make sure. This one has AgePrecision so I can set it specifically for her age. Also, just a side note: I initially got the Braun Ear Thermometer, but was later told by nurses that they are NOT accurate for the first 6 months of a baby’s life because their ear canal is still developing.
Dr. Brown’s Options+ Feeding Bottles – These bottles worked really great for us and I love that they have the anti-colic insert.
Dr. Brown’s Formula Dispenser – For formula-fed babies, I LOVE using this to keep pre-measured formula in the diaper bag. It has 3 compartments and a convenience spout so the formula goes directly into the bottle without making a mess.
Bath & Potty
Young Living Seedlings Line – I have to talk about this line of products super quick because it’s all that I use on Mia. I’m talking Baby Oil, Baby Wash, Baby Wipes, Baby Lotion, Diaper Rash Cream, Linen Spray – they have it all, and the best part is that they’re all made with natural, plant-based ingredients that keep your baby’s delicate skin in mind. I freaking LOVE these products because they work so well and I trust they’re safe for my baby girl.
Fisher-Price Rinse ‘n Grow Tub – Mia has used this tub since she was born and it’s perfect. She loves the sling because it’s so much comfier than putting her into a harder tub, and it supports her well. I also love that it can be adjusted as she grows.
Playtex Diaper Genie – I have to say my girl does some reallyyyyy nasty poops and our Diaper Genie keeps her nursery smelling fresh all the time. Love this!
Hatch Baby Rest Sound Machine – We use this every single night as a nightlight and sound machine and I know we will continue to use it as she grows older. I love that you can pre-program everything and turn it on from your phone.
Baby Shusher – When we were doing our newborn photo shoot, the photographer used this to help Mia sleep through all of the sleeping shots and it worked so well. I came straight home and Amazon-primed it to us because that ish works SO freaking well! We use this initially to help her fall asleep and then the Hatch Baby (above) runs through the night.
Arm’s Reach The Co-Sleeper Versatile Bassinet – We live in a condo and space is limited so the design of this made it perfect to have a bassinet in our bedroom. The legs actually slide right under the bed so that half of the bassinet rests directly on top of our bed (we don’t have enough room for it to just be next to the bed and have enough walking space).
Young Living Feather the Owl Diffuser + Lavender Essential Oil – I know I rave about oils a lot but I truly do love using them, and that didn’t change when it came to having a newborn. We use our diffuser every single night during our bedtime routine with the Lavender essential oil (very diluted for baby) to help calm her down so she goes to sleep peacefully. What I love about this diffuser is that it’s a diffuser, humidifier, night light, AND white noise machine all wrapped up in one.
The Play Gym by Lovevery – I totally recommend this because it’s simple so it doesn’t overstimulate baby, yet it has so many ways to teach them colours, shapes, textures, etc as they grow throughout the first year. During the first 3 months we used it mainly for tummy time play and to introduce high-contrast images.
Jellycat Plush Baby Ring Rattle – Mia loves her “bunzy” so much. It’s soft enough for a newborn but it also rattles so it’s great for engaging their attention.
Boppy Newborn Lounger – I don’t know what we would have done without this lounger. Mia LOVED to hang out on this during the day and even take some of her daytime naps on it (supervised of course!) because it is so comfy.
Aden + Anais Cotton Muslin Swaddle Blankets – These are by far my favourite blankets because they are so soft and gentle, yet such high quality. They’re also multi-functional so can be used for many things!
Boppy ComfyFit Baby Carrier – I love this carrier because it is so comfy (literally in it’s name), easy to use, and perfect for going on walks without having to tote a stroller.
SKIP*HOP Stroll & Go Universal Car Seat Cover – Because Mia was born in the fall and it got pretty cold quickly, this car seat cover was PERFECT to keep her warm whenever we went out. We don’t use a jacket on her, just a sweater and a blanket over her legs with this over the top of the car seat.
Dr. Brown’s PreVent Glow in the Dark Orthodontic Pacifiers – We started using pacifiers at around 4 weeks just to help soothe Mia when she’s falling asleep. We tried a few different brands and she liked this one the best. I also love that it’s glow in the dark because it’s a lot easier for us to find in the bassinet during the night if she needs it.
Pearhead Baby’s Little Organizer – Personally, I LOVE using a separate organizer that is specific for all baby’s things like her birth certificate, SIN number, health card, vaccination records, etc. It keeps it all in one place and separate from all of our other things.
If you’re a first-time parent, it can be super overwhelming figuring out what will work best for your baby. I hope this post helps to give you a little insight on our favourite must-have items for the first 3 months of baby’s life, as well as some info on WHY we love them so much. I know that we will definitely be using them for our next baby as well, so I hope you find them just as awesome as we did.
